Connor Wood Fears a Brutal ‘3’ From DWTS Judges

Connor Wood Is Already Worried About Getting a “Three” on ‘Dancing With the Stars’

Connor Wood is feeling the pressure ahead of his Dancing With the Stars debut — and there’s one score he absolutely doesn’t want to see from judge Derek Hough.

The comedian, 30, spoke with Entertainment Weekly alongside his professional partner, Rylee Arnold, following the announcement of the Season 35 cast.

“I’m feeling the pressure because I’m locked in,” Wood said. “I want to be really, really good. I want to show up. So, I feel great. The pressure’s good. Pressure makes diamonds.”

When asked which judge makes them the most nervous, Arnold admitted she was worried about all three — Carrie Ann Inaba, Bruno Tonioli and Derek Hough.

“Derek’s kind of scary,” she said.

Wood then revealed that Hough’s potential scores have already gotten into his head.

“He brought up the number three, which I hadn’t even considered receiving a three at all,” Wood joked. “We’re so locked right now and our routines are so dialed in that I would have to really do something insane to get a three.”

“Let’s not speak it into existence,” Arnold quickly replied.

But Wood admitted the number was now stuck in his mind.

“I can’t stop thinking about it. While you’re talking, all I hear in my head is Derek going, ‘Three, three, three,’” he joked.

Carrie Ann Inaba confirmed that scores as low as two have been given on the show in the past, although she said her own lowest score was a four.

As for Wood and Arnold’s partnership, the comedian says the two immediately clicked — while Arnold has no problem pushing him during rehearsals.

“The first day we hit flow state. It’s like we had been friends for a long time,” Wood said of Arnold, 21, who is entering her fourth season as a professional dancer.

He praised her willingness to challenge him, explaining that she’ll tell him, “Get up. We’re doing it again. No, that’s wrong. Look at me.”

Wood admitted he has already tested her patience while trying to master certain moves.

“There are weird things I’m unable to get right away, and we breathe through those times,” he said.

Arnold agreed that they quickly developed a strong connection.

“I feel like immediately we got so comfortable, and it’s just been so fun,” she said.

The Season 35 cast also includes Julia Stiles, Jenna Dewan, Tatyana Ali, Tyler Cameron, Giada De Laurentiis, Maura Higgins, Ciara Miller, Taylor Hanson, Sarah Jane Nader, Guillermo Rodriguez, Jackson Olson, Ezra Frech, Amber Glenn and Conner Leavitt.

The two-night Dancing With the Stars Season 35 premiere airs Tuesday, Sept. 15, and Wednesday, Sept. 16, at 8 p.m. ET/PT on ABC and Disney+.
