Queen Camilla Reveals the Emotional Struggle Behind King Charles’ Cancer Battle
Queen Camilla has opened up about the difficult period surrounding King Charles III’s cancer diagnosis, revealing how hard it was to keep the news private.
More than two years after Buckingham Palace announced the monarch’s diagnosis, Camilla spoke about their experience in a short film released by Maggie’s, the cancer support charity she has visited and supported.
Recalling a 2024 visit to one of the charity’s centers, Camilla said she had recently learned about Charles’ diagnosis and found it extremely difficult to remain silent.
“I remember coming to see a Maggie’s just after the king being diagnosed,” she said. “Nobody could say anything at the time, that was quite difficult.”
Camilla, now 79, admitted that she desperately wanted to speak about what was happening but knew the time was not right.
“I was just longing to let it out but obviously I couldn’t,” she recalled, explaining that meeting cancer patients and their families made her realize even more how important support centers like Maggie’s can be.
The Queen also revealed how Charles chose to cope with his illness by continuing with his work.
“Look at my husband, nothing stopped him,” she said. “He just said, ‘This is my way I’m going to cope with it.’”
Charles, 77, later offered a hopeful update on his health, revealing that his treatment schedule would be reduced in 2026 following an early diagnosis and successful treatment.
In a prerecorded message for Channel 4’s Stand Up To Cancer, the King said the progress was both a personal blessing and a reflection of advances in cancer care.
He also stressed the importance of early diagnosis, saying it can provide medical teams with valuable time while giving patients something equally important: hope.
Charles has continued to carry out public duties while undergoing treatment, and he has previously spoken about how his illness changed his perspective.
“The darkest moments of illness can be illuminated by the greatest compassion,” he said.
Throughout Charles’ health journey, Camilla has remained by his side, offering a rare glimpse into the private challenges faced by the royal family behind the scenes.
