Hannah & Shane Reveal Their Plan to Protect Their Baby Online!

Squirmy and Grubs Open Up About Pregnancy and Protecting Their Baby’s Privacy

Hannah and Shane Burcaw are taking a thoughtful approach to sharing their pregnancy journey online.

The couple, known to millions of followers as Squirmy and Grubs, recently announced that they are expecting their first child. Now, they are opening up about how they plan to balance their lives as content creators with their growing family.

The couple announced the pregnancy on Sept. 8, but waited until Hannah was five months along before sharing the news publicly. In a YouTube video posted the same day, they explained that they had intentionally kept the pregnancy private so they could enjoy the experience together.

“We felt like, we are bringing another human into the world; they can’t speak for their privacy right now,” Shane said. “So, we wanted to take sharing of all this with the world really carefully.”

Shane, who has spinal muscular atrophy, explained that the decision was also influenced by the negative reactions they expected to receive online.

“There are going to be a number of people, a big number of people, who are not happy about this pregnancy announcement,” he said.

He acknowledged that some people may criticize their decision to become parents because of his disability, adding that they expect hurtful comments across social media, message boards and emails.

Despite their public presence, Hannah and Shane say protecting their child’s privacy will remain their top priority once the baby arrives.

“Our priority is just to protect the privacy of our baby,” Hannah tells PEOPLE. “Because social media is not always great.”

The couple are now considering how much of their family life they will share with their audience while continuing their work as creators.

For Hannah and Shane, the pregnancy marks a new chapter — one they intend to approach carefully while making sure their child’s privacy and well-being come first.
