Amanda Seyfried had a brief but surprised reaction to the latest development in Elizabeth Holmes’ prison sentence.
Holmes, the disgraced founder of Theranos, is currently serving an 11-year federal sentence after being convicted of defrauding investors through her failed blood-testing company. Now, a new report says she is expected to move from prison to a halfway house next year.
According to a letter sent to victims of Holmes’ crimes and obtained by The New York Times, she is scheduled to be transferred from F.P.C. Bryan, a minimum-security federal prison in Texas, to the Austin Transitional Center on August 23, 2027.
Seyfried, who portrayed Holmes in the Hulu miniseries The Dropout, appeared stunned by the news.
After Good Morning America anchor Rebecca Jarvis shared an Instagram post about the development on September 23, Seyfried simply commented, “Woah!!!!”
The actress famously transformed her appearance and voice to portray Holmes in the acclaimed series, which explored the rise and eventual collapse of Theranos.
Holmes is currently being held at F.P.C. Bryan, located roughly 100 miles northeast of Austin. However, officials have not publicly confirmed details about her future confinement.
A Bureau of Prisons spokesperson told NBC News that the agency could not provide information regarding Holmes’ incarceration or potential release plans, citing security concerns and agency policy.
For now, the reported 2027 transfer remains the latest development in Holmes’ lengthy legal saga.
